Matthew 9:36-37

36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Here we see Jesus make a serious observation of a condition that the masses of people were in. It give the impression of a people who are wandering around, no direction, no meaning, just existing in life without any question of why.

Have you ever asked yourself, there has to be more to this life than just getting up everyday to chase a desires of our own ambition. To spend our entire life attempting to acquire more money just to die and leave with nothing. What happens when you spend your whole life just existing for some reason that you created for yourself and at the end of life it means nothing? This is what Jesus seen, people with no real purpose, without any spiritual or eternal value.

Somehow they had missed the meaning of life, they had no idea of the Kingdom of God and their Purpose.

They were likened to sheep without a shepherd.

It’s here that Jesus speak of a harvest and a lack.

The need was massive and the opportunity was enormous and the time was right.

The current response wasn't enough. The existing effort wasn't matching the existing need. There was a gap between what needed to be done and who was willing to do it.

Someone ask me, what is the meaning of this life? My response was when you discover the purpose of Jesus, in Him you will discover your purpose.
